Fleming, Ian
The Man with the Golden Gun
London: Jonathan Cape, 1965
First edition, first impression, second state. Octavo (194mm × 130mm), pp. 221. Original dust jacket, unclipped. Wrapped in a clear, protective archival sleeve. Publisher’s black boards with title in gold gilt to the spine. Minor shelf wear to pictorial boards and dust jacket. The endpapers and internal pages are clean.
First State: Only about 1% of the initial print run (fewer than 1,000 copies) feature a large embossed golden gun stamped in gilt on the front board. Because stamping the gun proved too expensive, the publisher halted the design and switched to plain boards.
Second State: The vast majority of the first impression features plain black cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine and green-and-white patterned endpapers, without the golden gun on the front cover
